Chapter Nine: Roomies!

After two days of being on the road to New Hampshire Constance had finally run out of things to do while waiting for them to say “We’re here!” so she could get of the stupid bus.

“Constance, are you okay?” Jean asked, looking over at her best friend.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she stopped to yawn. “I’m just super tired…the window isn’t the best pillow” she turned to glare at Ethan, who was leaned up against the window with his eyes closed.

“I know you’re glaring at me,” Ethan grumbled lazily. “And I offered to let you sleep on me yesterday, but you said no”

“Of course I did,” Constance said. “I don't want to sleep on you”

“But you own me” he opened his eyes and smiled as he pulled up his shirt to reveal the “Property of Constance Marie” sign on his abs.

“That doesn’t mean I’m going to use you as a pillow” Constance argued.

“I think you should just do it,” Jean said. “You don’t want to pass out due to exhaustion or anything”

“Ugh,” she groaned. “Fine” she put her legs over the arm rest and laid back. Her head rested in Ethan’s lap, and she closed her eyes.

                             ***-__-***

“We’re here!” a woman announced over the intercom.

“Hey, you,” Ethan shook Constance. “We’re here, open your eyes sleeping beauty”

“No” she groaned, shaking her head.

Ethan placed a kiss on her forehead. “I command you to wake up, right now” he shook her harder.

“Okay, okay, I’m up, I’m up” she sat up and rubbed her eyes sleepily. Constance looked out the window to see a large, dull, gray building with little to no windows and absolutely no decorative flowers. The building was pretty big, with other buildings attached to it, all the same color. There was fog spread across the school yard, enabling you sight or only 30 feet in front of you. The grass was green, but not a healthy green.

    “Nice, huh?” Ethan asked sarcastically.

“Ew, it’s so…gross looking” Jean commented.

“Well, it’s your new home” Ethan stated.

    “It’s so ugly” Jean whined.

“The inside’s worse” Ethan scratched behind his head.

“Ew” Jean picked up her multiple carry-on bags and headed off the bus, following everyone else.

                          ~*~*~*~*~*~

“Holy zebras, Constance, we’re roomies!” Jean grabbed her best friends hand and started jumping with joy.

“Thank god! I would have hated to have a roommate I didn’t know” Constance let out a sigh of relief as they opened their room and walked inside.

“Ew, it’s so nasty in here!” Jean half-yelled. The walls were an ugly gray color and the only things in the room were beds, desks, and closets.

“It said in the handbook that we could make changes to it, considering this room will be assigned to us for the next 4 to 5 years” Constance shrugged.

“We’re going to be here till we’re 20?!” Jean yelled.

“I don’t know, that’s what the handbook said!”

“Ethan said most kids get here when they’re 11!”

“Well the pamphlet I have is for 15 and up” Constance opened the flimsy piece of paper.

“So we will be here for 5 years?!” Jean started tearing at the ugly sheets on her bed and throwing them into a heavy pile on the floor.

“What are you doing, Jean?” Constance took the bed in the darkest corner of the room.
“I brought extra sheets with me,” she said as she opened one of her 5 suitcases to pull out a zebra print bed spread and matching sheets with pillow cases.

“Of course you did” Constance rolled her eyes.

“I’m sure your mom packed you some too” Jean walked to her closet and started unloading her two suitcases full of clothes and shoes.

“There’s a whole suitcase of stuff my mom packed, but I didn’t’ get to look at it because the bus got to my house”

Someone knocked on the door, and Jean was busying herself with decorating her half of the room in brighter colors, and zebra stripes.

“Who is it?” Constance asked through the door.

“It’s me Kimmy” Ethan said, then let loose a small chuckle.

“Ethan!” Constance yelled opening the door. Ethan stood there with his arms out.

“Can I get a hug?” he asked with a smile.

“But I was just with you half an hour ago” Constance groaned, they’d been on tour for half an hour; the women in black showing them around and yelling at them.

“So?” he held out his arms a little further.

“Oh, alright” Constance wrapped her arms around Ethan’s waist, and then realized he had a friend with him.

“Hey man, you didn’t tell me your friend was hott,” the guy hit Ethan’s shoulder as Constance let go. “Hey babe” he winked at her.

“Hey, Connie, who was it?” Jean came up and stood next to her. “Ethan, hey!” she gave Ethan a quick hug and stepped back.

“And your hott friend has a hott friend,” the guy said. “Hey there” he winked at Jean too.

“Stop hitting on my friends” Ethan said.

“Hi,  I’m Jean” she waved at the boy behind Ethan.

    “I’m Andrew” he waved back.

“So, can I come in?” Ethan asked, looking between Constance and Jean.

“As long as you promise not to break anything” Constance opened the door all the way to let to boys in.

“Did you bring your whole room with you  Jean?” Ethan asked, looking at Jean’s side of the room.

“Just about” Jean admitted with a small smile.

Andrew walked in awkwardly, not knowing what to expect from the girls. “How do you all know each other?” he asked.

“Me and Ethan were in kindergarten together,” Constance said, patting Ethan’s shoulder. “Then Jean and I met during ‘Mommy and Me’ as a a pre-kindergarten activity” she wrapped her arm around Jean’s shoulder.

“And I met Jean at her birthday party in the first grade” Ethan shrugged.

“So you’re all like best friends?” Andrew asked.

“No,” Ethan shrugged. “Constance is my best friend, no offense Jean”

“None taken,” Jean smiled at him. “And Constance is my best friend”

“So, who’s your best friend?” Andrew asked, pointing at Constance.

“They’re both my best friends, I love them equally” Constance grabbed Ethan’s hand, with her other arm still around Jean.

“Who do you hang out with more?” he asked curiously.

“It depends on what we’re doing. We do a lot of stuff together” Constance let the both of them go, and headed towards her suitcase.

“Ooh, you’ve got boys in here! Cute boys!” a shrill voice sang from the door.
