Chapter Seven: The Awkward Beginning Of A Long Bus Ride!

“Stop that” Constance glared at Ethan.

"Stop what?” he asked, his chocolate eyes growing wider slightly.

“That! You’re making me feel bad!” she turned from him.

“Constance—” Ethan put a hand on her shoulder.

“Ethan, leave her alone,” Jean said. “Let her cry it out”

“She’s crying?” Ethan turned Constance around to see tears streaming down her cheeks. “Constance, I’m sorry” he murmured.

     “No you’re not” she sniffled.

“Annie—” Ethan rubbed her shoulder slightly.

As Constance cried harder Jean got out of her seat and knelt by Constance’s arm rest. “Alright, Connie, get up” Jean pulled on her friend’s hand.

Constance stood up and Jean sat down in her seat. “What was the point of that?” Ethan looked at Jean.

“You’ll see, it’ll calm her down…Connie, sit” Jean patted her lap.

Constance sat down in her best friend’s lap, putting her head on her shoulder. “How is that helping?” Ethan asked.
“What’s wrong Connie? Was Ethie being mean to you?”

    “Um, ‘Ethie’?” Ethan said awkwardly.

“She used to call you that behind your back in elementary school” Jean explained
.Constance gave a slight nod as if to say, “he was kinda being mean to me”

“What did he do?” Jean asked.

Constance shook her head and looked down at the multiple patches on her worn down skinny jeans. She pointed to the one that said, “Ethan Jean & Constance Best Friends 4ever!”

“We’ll be friends forever and ever” Jean nodded, giving her a warm smile.

    “What?” Ethan asked, obviously confused.

“She’s worried about us not being friends anymore” Jean shrugged.

“Why?” Ethan asked, watching as Jean rubbed Constance’s back soothingly.

“I don’t know, ask her yourself” Jean said.

“No seat switching, Miss Miller please return to your seat” a woman said calmly.

Jean got up, then gave Constance a friendly kiss on the cheek. “Love you”

“Love you too” Constance smiled, and watched as Jean sat down across from her and pulled out her Teen Vogue magazines.

“Constance,” Ethan rubbed her arm gently. “What’s wrong?”

“You won’t leave me and Jean for your other friends, will you?” she murmured.

“No, god no, of course not” Ethan shook his head.

“Oh. My. Gawd! E-Bear!” a girl in a pink halter top and silver mini-skirt with a pair of matching stilettos came running up, pushed Constance right out of her seat into the aisle and sat in Ethan’s lap. “I’ve missed you!” she exclaimed.

Then she grabbed him by his shirt and planted one on him.
